What are we learning?
In this section of the Newsletter, I will list some Essential Questions that your child should be able to answer by the end of the week. This can help you to ask specific questions so that your child can tell you what he/she is learning in school!
Language Arts/Reading

- How do I make sense of text?
- How can I use letter sound knowledge and spelling patterns to decode? (diphthongs: oi, oy)
Writing
- How can I become a great writer?
- How do I write to inform?
Math
- Math facts – Practice Math Facts on FirstinMath.com and myskillstutor.com!!
- How can I show, identify, and compare fractions?
Social Studies
- How can I describe the contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr.?
Science
- How can I describe the life cycle of different living things over different seasons?
Spelling Words
We will not have a Spelling Test this week. Homework packets and Spelling words will continue as usual next week!
Winter Break
I hope that everyone had a wonderful vacation. I was glad to see everyone’s smiling faces again this morning.

First in Math
Our class is ranked in 12th place in the entire school for First in Math. Let’s try to play and earn LOTS of stickers so we can move into the top 10!
General Information
- Please send in a snack every day for your 2nd grader.
- Water bottles are permitted only (no juice boxes/sports drinks in the classroom)… spills cause critters!!!!
- ALWAYS REMEMBER… please send a note for any afternoon dismissal changes!
- Remember to read each night and log it on your reading log.
