Cobb County's utilizes first, third, and fifth graders' district wide assessments to determine your child's eligibility for the ALP, the Advanced Learning Program. Students who have aptitude and achievement test scores above the 90th%ile are given the opportunity for further assessment, with parental permission. Creativity and Motivation measures are also used to determine eligibility. When a student receives qualifying scores in three of the four tested areas, he/she qualifies for the ALP program.
For two years, these scores continue to determine eligibility. If a student is already qualified for Target from another Georgia school, this child will automatically qualify at Bells Ferry School. If, however, a child qualifies in one state, further assessment will be needed to determine if the child meets eligibility requirements in Georgia.
ALP is an exciting, innovative, program that promotes extensive higher level thinking. For students who do not yet qualify for our Target program, TALENTS is an additional way to challenge our Bells Ferry students.
AS A PARENT, what can I do to encourage proficiency in my child's performance? I would encourage daily reading, and ask, ask, ask, and listen, listen, listen! Gifted learners are sponges to new information, and will often surprise us with their own novel, unique thoughts!
I look forward to talking to you further about your individual eligibility questions. For further assistance, I will be happy to e-mail you. I may be reached at robin.seidman@cobbk12.org.
Thank you! Ms. R. Seidman :-)
